Choosing legal help in New South Wales

Put the NSW location of the matter before the office address

At the first enquiry, distinguish where you live from the location of a property, workplace or court named in a document. If more than one state is involved, say so before agreeing to an appointment. Ask who will identify the applicable jurisdiction and whether the office can handle all parts of the enquiry. You do not need to resolve that question yourself.

Choose the right Legal Aid NSW contact

Legal Aid NSW publishes an office directory, including separate Parramatta contacts for civil/family and criminal matters. Use the current official listing to choose a contact rather than assuming one office deals with every enquiry. Ask what assistance is available and what eligibility or appointment requirements apply.
