Notarial and justice of the peace services involve particular witnessing, certification or document-related functions. The receiving organisation's requirements should be checked before choosing the person or service to use.

A notary public and a justice of the peace are not interchangeable. Documents intended for overseas use may require particular notarisation, authentication or an apostille, depending on the destination and document. Certification alone does not establish that a foreign authority will accept the document.
Organise the following material you already lawfully hold. This is a preparation list, not a complete evidentiary requirement. Ask the verified adviser what they need and how to send it securely.
Keep originals and dates intact. Use a short initial enquiry for a conflict and suitability check before sending sensitive documents.
Obtain the receiving organisation’s exact written requirements and explain the country and purpose of the document. Ask the notary what originals, identification, translations and appointment arrangements are needed. Confirm which steps the notary performs and whether a separate authentication or legalisation process must be arranged.
Witnessing, certifying a copy, notarising and obtaining an apostille are not interchangeable descriptions. Paying for the wrong step can leave the receiving organisation’s requirements unmet.
